It is never too early to talk about 'Da Bears

This past week was a good week in sports.

The Cubbies finished the first half of the year one game above .500, and only four and one-half games behind Milwaukee. Greg Oden and Kevin Durant showed that they have a lot of work to do before their season starts, with Oden recording 10 fouls in his Summer League debut and Durant missing 12 of 17 shots in his. And, Roger Federer won his fifth straight Wimbledon title.

These were all very big events in sports, but my mind has been on another sport not mentioned this week, football. Specifically the Chicago Bears.

In about three weeks, the Bears will begin their run to Super Bowl XLII when they suit up for training camp in Bourbonnais, IL. But first, the Bears must sort out a few issues, starting with Tank Johnson.

Now, I know they released Tank after the run-in with the Arizona police, but are they going to have a problem replacing him?

I don't think so.

Tommy Harris is healthy again after a hamstring injury, and the Bears signed Anthony Adams to a four-year deal. Add Adewale Ogunleye and Alex Brown to the mix, and the Bears' defensive line should be a dominating force once again.

The next issue would be the Lance Briggs contract situation. He was put under the franchise tag and because he doesn't like that, he says he is going to sit out the first 10 games of the year. 10 games?

If Brian Urlacher was not in Chicago, Briggs would be the center of the defense. He is that good. He was very useful during the Bears' Super Bowl run last year and he needs to play in every game this year for them to have a shot again.

Personally, I think he will play, because this will be the last year he has to be in Chicago.

In order to impress the other teams who are looking to sign him, he is going to have to play his heart out and make himself look good. But just in case he doesn't play, the Bears need to get the young players ready so they can fill anybody's shoes.
