Daniels explained that she began her career at ISU in the Department of Special Education, but also worked in the Dean's office of the College of Arts and Sciences for approximately a year and a half until returning to special education.
"[Nancy] has contributed a lot of different things to a lot of different people," Jeffrey P. Bakken, interim chair of the Department of Special Education Department, said.
As office manager, Daniels worked with budgeting issues and all potential grants, according to Bakken.
Along with managerial duties, Daniels was also responsible for hiring and training graduate assistants for the Department of Special Education.
While Bakken described Daniels as "a wealth of information," her years of experience will not be the only reason her department will miss her.
"The most we will miss is her character. She is very caring and is always there to listen…always willing to help new faculty," Bakken added. Likewise, Daniels said she would miss the people in her department.
"They are like good friends and family…I knew [the department] was a place I was comfortable," Daniels said.
Daniels' dedication to ISU has left a lasting impression on the faculty, staff and students she has worked with for over two decades, but Daniels explained special education major students have been just as motivating.
"The special educations major [students] are very dedicated to the field they are serving in. That has always impressed me. It is always encouraging to see that…they are so passionate," Daniels added.
After retirement Daniels plans to travel with her husband, relax and enjoy time with her family.
"We go through each day with so much to do and so little time. It is going to be good not to rush through life," Daniels said.
